More than Enough

William Blake postulated that excess leads to wisdom: “We never know what is enough before we know what is more than enough.” This is especially true for drinking alcohol. After you throw up all over yourself and suffer a few brutal hangovers, you begin to learn exactly where the fine line is between Stage 2 Euphoria and Jail. Some people learn the difference between enough children and more than enough children when they hit Stage 3 Excitement (Drunk). Blake’s parents took him out of school at age ten and enrolled him in drawing classes. My nine year old granddaughter agrees that by the age of ten, parents should recognize that schooling beyond third grade is excessive. Blake’s success validated his mother’s decision to educate him at home. I am down to homeschooling my granddaughter two days a week after my schedule was incrementally cut an hour at a time from five days to two days by her mother who is searching for a point where my excessively detrimental influence would be diluted enough that she could still justify her now part-time job. My days are Wednesday (early release after 4.25 hours) and Thursday (6.5 hours). Wednesday is mostly offline and Zofia finished her work in a record 38 minutes this past week. On Thursday, she was required to write an essay on something she is good at. She wrote about being a good “persuader.” She volunteered to read her essay to the virtual class and her closest friends from the Roblox game confirmed she was indeed a skilled persuader. No surprise to the grandfather who accepted that she had adequately completed everything in 38 minutes on Wednesday.
