Such irony. White supremacists actually make a compelling case for why the white race is not supreme. They are like a kicker on a pro football team popping off about how his team is the best in the NFL and then missing so many field goals that the team cannot even get into the playoffs. Proud Boys is an interesting moniker. I think of proud in the worst sense of the word: hubris, overconfidence, arrogance, and overestimation of one’s competence. And boys connotes an immature version of men. Andrew Ferebee once tackled the question of what separates men from boys. He said, “Men accept responsibility for their actions, boys try to blame others and avoid responsibility at all costs.” Like Ferebee, Proud Boys, political commentators, and politicians, I have a tendency to overgeneralize and cherry pick information. But the public relations director for the Proud Boys should have convinced them to change their name. Canada beat them to it and recently named them Terrorist Entity. Of course, it would be even better to change their views.
